In 1917, the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, between May 13 and October 13, were witnessed by three young shepherd children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. During these encounters, the children received messages from the Blessed Virgin Mary about the daily prayer of the Rosary, making sacrifices for the conversion of sinners, repentance, and committing to a devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The apparitions culminated in the "Miracle of the Sun" on October 13, where the sun danced and appeared to fall from the sky, witnessed by tens of thousands of people. Since the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Fatima, she was venerated with the names of Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of the Rosary.
