Baptism FAQs
Q. How old can the child be?
A. Infant to 5 years of age. If the child is older than five years, we require you to go to your local parish and register your child in a Faith Formation Program for children.
Q. Who can be a Godparent?
A. There needs to be at least one Godparent who is practicing Catholic. One must be male and one female. If one is not Catholic but baptized in another Christian Faith, they may serve as a witness to the baptism along with a Catholic Godparent.
Q. When can I register for the preparation class?
A. Contact our office for availability, we provide preparation classes in Spanish and English. Both parents and Godparents MUST attend the class. You will receive a confirmation letter from the Cathedral with the date and time of the class you are scheduled to attend.
Q. After I attend the class and fill out the require paperwork, what happens then?
A. You will be contacted to confirm the date of the baptism, and then we will send you a letter of confirmation with information needed for the day and time of the baptism ceremony.
Q. Why am I being charged $40?
A. We do not charge for the sacrament of baptism, the registration fee covers the preparation class and certificates for the baptism ceremony. The day of the baptism the Cathedral suggests a donation to the deacon or priest conducting the ceremony. During the preparation class, you will be given more information on the suggested amount.
